Isolation is a common and serious problem and many people do not have the social connections that others take for granted. The friendship of a volunteer can go a long way in reducing this isolation and enhancing a person’s life.
The program aims to break down community misunderstanding, fear, and stigma surrounding mental health issues. Stigma toward people experiencing mental health issues has a detrimental effect on the ability to obtain services, recovery, the type of treatment and support received, and overall acceptance in the community.
To allow further social interaction, group outings are also arranged for those who wish to attend. These can include lunches, BBQs, visits to local places of interest – varying depending on the interests of the group
